Addressing Most Common Myths About Soy

Soy is a type of legume from Asia. Soybeans have been known as a nutrient dense food, with a lot of protein and amino acids, as well as vitamins B1,B2, B3, B5, B6, B9, C and Zinc. Fiber and Omegas 3 and 6 Fatty acids as well.


Yet despite all the benefits of soy there are still lots of Myths saying it's dangerous to consume Soy.


Myth #1

GMO

GMO are genetically modified organisms, and their safety for human consumption is a topic for debate. Many European countries have banned GMOs.


While a large amount of soybeans are, I will say, unfortunately, genetically modified, not all soy is GMO. Tofu, Tempeh, Soy Milk are items available at any store and label Non GMO.


Myth #2

Soy will give me “Moobs” Man Boobs

Estrogen and Testosterone are steroid hormones that are naturally in both sexes of humans. They help regulate sexual functions and secondary sexual characteristics. High levels of estrogen, like taking estrogen pills or doing hormone replacement therapy have been implicated in cancer growth.


Estrogen is not found in Soybeans, though it is found in animal products. These animals are being supplemented with hormones, while they produce their own estrogen. So think about it, extra hormones we definitely don’t need.


Myth #3

Soy is bad for my health

Soy has more protein than any other plant, it has the nine essential amino acids we need to build muscle and have healthy bones.


It is known that soy can significantly reduce the risk of some types of cancer and heart problems. It is high in Omega 3s and fiber, components that our bodies need.
